Aliens: Colonial Marines gets a new trailer to go with new delay (video)

Sega officially announced its Aliens-based first person shooter way back in 2008. Shortly after the announcement the game seemed to disappear and we didn’t hear much about it until late 2011 when a Spring 2012 release date was given. That release date eventually got pushed back to Fall of 2012. Now, as fall quickly approaches, we have a new release date.

Gearbox has announced a firm release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines, unfortunately it won’t be this fall as previously hoped. In fact,  the game wont even see a 2012 release. Gearbox and Sega jointly decided to push the worldwide release back to February 12, 2013.

Gearbox President and CEO Randy Pitchford had this to say:

“We’ve always prioritized the goals we had for the game over any particular launch window, The game’s development has been invigorating and natural relative to our experience making games and the objectives for it. Because the game was ‘announced’ with that original press release, it might feel, to those of you who have been waiting for the game since then, that it has been in development a long time.

“In fact, with the release date now set, it turns out that the total development time we have spent creating Aliens: Colonial Marines is about the same length of time as we had spent creating the original Borderlands or the original Brothers in Arms – both games that we had waited to announce until we were much farther along in the development process.”

It is great to hear that they are focused on releasing the best game possible,  but it still stings a little to find out we will be waiting months longer than expected. To ease the pain of disappointed fans, Sega and Gearbox have released a new trailer for the game.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U and features a story that picks up where the 1986 film Aliens ended.
