BlackBerry 10 Launch Event Summary
Today, January 30th, at 10 AM eastern standard time, Research In Motion had a live webcast concerning the BlackBerry 10. However before I get started on that it was announced that RIM(Research In Motion) is now BlackBerry! Also another announcement that was made later in the webcast was the new Global Creative Director, Alicia Keys. She will be heading up a project concerning the BlackBerry in the coming months.
Now onto what was announced with the BlackBerry, there are two models the Z10 and the Q10. The Z10 is a touchscreen that is 4.2 inches and 356 PPI. The Q10 is different as it’s the first smartphone with a physical keyboard. The Q10 is thinner, lighter, and stronger than plastic.
In this operating system there is the BlackBerry Hub that saves time with it’s flow. With this operating system you are able to move from one application to another quickly and easily. You have no need to hit home after you finish with each application. All you have to do is swipe your finger across the screen to go to another application. All of the applications are live in this smartphone.
When you are busy with an application and the red light alert comes on, you don’t have to close down what you are doing. Your application is still running as you pull your screen to the side halfway to check to see what the alert is about. In this Hub every account with social media is connected, you don’t have to go to each homepage to check every social media.
When you need to contact someone, pulling up their name lets you see all of their social networks. Also their contact information is on the page as well. The Z10’s keyboard is completely touchscreen but it still holds the trademark BlackBerry keyboard, white font on black keys. Instead of writing out all of the words out you can flick the completed words to the text easily. Deleting is just as easy, just swiping to the left, and to get to the punctuation just a swipe down and you have the listing there. Writing in multiple languages is not a problem now, the BlackBerry 10 now corrects the spelling, and any problems in the spacing it corrects as well.
Many people that has two phones, one for work one for personal will only need one. The phone has two settings, work and personal. The work setting can be controlled by the CEO easily. The BlackBerry Messenger has also been revamped. Instead of just text messaging you now have the ability to use video chat and screen chat.
When projects come up, you don’t have to worry about losing documents anymore thanks to BlackBerry Remember. When you have a certain project you can put all relevant documents, photos, and recordings to that particular project folder.
The camera is just as innovative as well. Just to take a photo all you have to do is tap the screen. Also if the photo didn’t come out well you can use time shift to get a better outcome! If you don’t want to have the focus of the picture in the default spot you can slide it around. Finally there is a photo editor allowing you to crop and put filters on the the photos. The last thing that has to do with photos is the Storymaker. The storymaker allows you to take photos, videos, and music to make a slideshow video concerning the choices made.
The BlackBerry 10 has access to music, tv shows, and movies! There are over 70,000 applications available with more being developed each week. Among these applications there has been quite a few large named ones committed. These are: Skype, Amazon kindle, What’s app, Sap, Angry Birds. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It was announced over 1000 top applications will be available for the BlackBerry 10.
The BlackBerry 10 is said to be the innovative tool when it comes to social networking, multimedia, business, games, published media, music, and videos.
The BlackBerry 10 can be preregistered and preordered today from the major cell phone carriers. It is announced it will be released in March. The prices will vary though but most likely the price with a two year commitment will be around $199.
