New Garmin Forerunner 15

Garmin has announced the all new Forerunner 15, an inexpensive GPS enabled running watch that incorporates many of the features found on daily activity trackers and has a battery that’s good for up to 5 weeks of use per charge depending on usage.

Water resistant up to 50 meters and packed full of sensors, the new Garmin Forerunner 15 was designed to track a users every movement during both indoor and outdoor training sessions and it will even alert wearers when they have been too lazy in between workouts.

The Forerunner 15 aims to help keep users motivated to achieve their personal fitness goals by monitoring steps, distance traveled, pace, and calories burned throughout the day. It can also be used to track your heart rate when paired with an optional heart rate monitor and is compatible with Garmin’s foot pod sensor, which allows for increased accuracy during treadmill runs.

Wearers will interact with the Garmin Forerunner 15 by using four physical buttons around the watch face and can set the watch up to meet their own personal needs. Fully customizable data fields allow users to see real-time information about their performance when and where they’d like to view it, a innovative auto lap function will automatically alert the user each time they’ve traveled a mile and personal records can be stored and displayed from the watch for later analysis.

Naturally, the Forerunner 15 is also compatible with the free Garmin Connect online fitness community. With it, users can connect their Forerunner to a PC or Mac and then upload all of the collected data from the watch to their connect account. Once there, users can view heart rate, steps, distance and pace information, track existing goals and set new ones, compete in online challenges and earn virtual badges and share their activities with other Garmin Connect users. It is all designed around helping users analyze their training progress and keep motivated to achieve their fitness goals.

We haven’t heard a firm Garmin Forerunner 15 release date yet, but it is expected to arrive online and at retail locations within the next couple of weeks. Once it has, you’ll be able to purchase just the Forerunner 15 itself for $170, or you may choose to get the watch bundled with a heart rate monitor for $200.  You can find more information about the new Forerunner 15 at Garmin’s Website.
