Microsoft Surface Tablet set to launch on October 26th
Microsoft has confirmed the Surface tablet release date, it will launch on the same day as the arrival of the latest version of their Windows operating system. The date was confirmed in Microsoft’s annual report, which was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and states the following:
The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices
Microsoft had previously indicated their plans to launch the Surface tablet alongside the release of their Windows 8 operating system. That much we’ve known for a while now, but this is the first time there has been an official release date confirmed by Microsoft.
The Surface table will be a available in two versions. The first version to launch will run Windows RT operating system and will use ARM processors. The second, more expensive version runs Windows 8 Pro and is expected to launch around 90 days after the initial Surface launch date. There still isn’t official details on pricing yet, but most expect the tablets to launch for $500-$100.
