Microsoft Teases Surface “Mini” Announcement for May 20th

The much rumored Surface in a smaller variety might be coming soon. Rumored for a while now, it looks like the wait may soon be over to see exactly what the device will be and how it will look. The details and specs on the device have been pretty sparse at this point aside from a leaked image of an alleged case for it on Amazon. What we do know, however, is that it should come with some type of pen input (likely Wacom like the Surface Pro) and Windows 8.1 RT. Also it’s safe to assume that the device will fall between the 7” to 9” screen size and will feature Microsoft’s patented Vapor MG casing that’s been present on all of its Surface products to date.

The device seems like a competitor to products like the Google Nexus 7, LG GPad Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, and iPad Mini more than the 8 inch tablets running full Windows like the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Asus VivoTab Note, Toshiba Encore, Lenovo Miix 2 and Lenovo ThinkPad 8. I believe that is a good decision actually because Windows RT, while criticized on the 10.6 inch Surfaces, would be better suited for a smaller screen where battery life is more of a priority. Also, you probably won’t need to run full programs on a smaller device so I doubt having access to desktop programs won’t be missed too much. Are you excited about this new tablet and will you be looking to pick one up when it comes out? Be sure to let us know in the comment section.
