Nokia announces the Verizon Wireless exclusive Lumia 822 Windows smartphone
The Nokia Lumia 822 will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system and features a 4.3 inch display (480×800 pixels), a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor along with 1 GB worth of RAM. Like other Nokia devices, the Lumia 822 will feature a 8MP rear camera with optics from Carl Zeiss and a 1.2MP HD front-facing camera for video calls. Storage options for the Lumia 822 include 8 GB worth of internal storage alongside a microSD slot that supports up to 64 GB cards. The Nokia Lumia 822 also supports wireless charging by using a optional shell which is sold separately.
On the software side of things, the Nokia Lumia 822 ships with Windows Phone 8 and includes several useful software features, including Nokia Drive+, which offers turn-by-turn voice navigation and offline access to pre-loaded US Maps. In addition to helping you navigate, the Lumia 822 can teach about your surroundings with Nokia City Lens, which is a augmented reality app that works with and enhances Nokia Maps. You will also get Nokia Music, which is a ad-free music streaming service that doesn’t require a log-in or a subscription, but will allow users to enjoy their favorite songs both on and offline.
Nokia’s press release didn’t include pricing information or the Nokia Lumia 822 release date, but my Verizon Wireless contact has told me that the device will be available by Thanksgiving in Black, White and Grey color models for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new two-year contract. We will have a full review of the Nokia Lumia 822 some time soon. For now, you can learn more by reading Nokia’s full press release, which follows the break.
