Raspberry Pi Begins Shipping

The first batch of the Raspberry Pi computers has began shipping. Developers and hobbyists who were lucky enough to get their orders in early can expect delivery some time next week.

Shipments of the Raspberry Pi have been delayed twice, first because of the wrong component being soldered onto boards and most recently for EMC testing. But now the highly anticipated computers are finally shipping from RS Electronics and element14 – Premier Farnell to customers. In fact a few lucky people have already received theirs.

Customers that were unable to get in on the first batch, such as myself, might still have a bit of a wait. However, the distributors have said that they will do their best to ensure that the first batches of Raspberry Pi computers will be shipped to customers in the order reservations were made.

Demand for the tiny computers, which costs just $35, is huge. Sites crashed when they were first made available and the first batch sold at a staggering pace of around 700 units per second. Not bad for a little computer that was designed primarily to create interest in programming among children.
