T-Mobile Takes on Personal Finance with the New Mobile Money Banking Service

T-Mobile Visa Debit Card

T-Mobile’s un-carrier movement has already played a role in changing how one industry does business and treats their customers, but that must not have been enough to satisfy the company, as T-Mobile today announced that they will be taking on the personal finance industry as well.

The newly announced Mobile Money banking service from T-Mobile aims to be “a sensible and affordable alternative to checking fees for the roughly 68 million Americans who do not have traditional accounts”, and includes a money management application and a T-Mobile Visa prepaid card.

According to T-Mobile, Mobile Money will allow customers to do most everything they would otherwise do with a traditional checking account. Including checking their account balance from their mobile device, deposit a check via their smartphone’s camera, having their paychecks directly deposited, pay bills, make retail purchases, and make free cash withdrawals at over 42,000 in-network ATMs nation wide.

While anyone is welcome to sign up for a Mobile Money account, existing T-Mobile customers will receive the best benefits such as no charges for activation, monthly maintenance, in-network ATM withdrawals, overdraft, or for replacing lost or stolen cards. Seems like it might make a great option for anyone who happens to be a T-Mobile subscriber and doesn’t have a checking account.
