Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear Smartwatch now available from Verizon

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Gear smartwatchToday’s the day that a lot of Verizon Wireless customers have been waiting for, as a pair of highly-anticipated devices from Samsung has just launched on their favorite carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and its companion smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, are now available for purchase from Verizon’s website and retail locations around the country. Verizon Wireless is offering the Galaxy Note 3 in white and black colors for $299 with a new 2-year agreement or for $699 off-contract. Customers can also choose to purchase a Galaxy Gear smartwatch bundled with their new Galaxy Note 3 for $599 with a new 2-year agreement or for $999 outright.

Verizon Wireless is only selling the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch when it’s purchased alongside the Note 3, which makes sense once you’ve thought about it. The Galaxy Gear depends on other devices for several of its features to work and currently, only the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) will work with the Galaxy Gear. So it is Verizon’s way of preventing customers from buying a smartwatch they can’t fully use because they may not have a proper companion device. This may change in the near future though, as reports have said that Samsung will be making the Galaxy Gear compatible with older Galaxy devices, as well as non-Samsung products soon.
