Verizon’s exclusive LG Lucid 2 officially announced, arrives online later this week

LG Lucid 2Verizon Wireless and LG have officially announced that the LG Lucid 2, which is Verizon’s version of the LG Optimus F5 and the follow up to last year’s LG Lucid, will be available online later this week.

I was rather impressed with the original LG Lucid when I was given the opportunity to review it last year. I highly recommended the device to first time smartphone owners and those on a budget. It’s successor appears to improve on the original in nearly every way imaginable, yet remains very affordable. In fact, the LG Lucid 2 is absolutely free with a new two year agreement.

On paper, the LG Lucid 2 seems to offer some decent hardware, especially once you consider the on-contract price of nothing. Up front, you’ll find a 4.3-inch AH-IPS display with a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Internally, the LG Lucid 2 features a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, 1GB worth of RAM and a large 2,460mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly. The phone comes with 8GB of internal storage and includes a MicroSD card slot with support for up to 64GB cards. There is also a pair of cameras (5MP on the back and a 1.3MP on the front), Bluetooth 4.0, and Verizon 4G LTE connectivity.

For software, the LG Lucid 2 ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and LG’s Optimus UI. New smartphone user might appreciate the included “Starter Mode”, which simplifies the user interface and applies helpful widgets to the Lucid 2’s home screen. But more experienced users will probably want to stick with the “Standard Mode”, it offers five fully customizable home screens, and the typical Android experience. Other preloaded software features include a bunch of LG’s own apps, such as cheese shutter for taking voice activated photos and the QuickMemo app, which is very useful for capturing screenshots and taking notes.

As was mentioned above, the LG Lucid 2 is free with a new two year agreement. That much we know for sure, but there seems to be a bit of confusion about the LG Lucid 2 release date. The press release we were sent from LG has the date of online availability set at today, but Verizon’s blog post indicates that the Lucid 2 wont be available until April 4th. I’ve contacted LG for clarification, but right now I am assuming that someone just made a small typo while typing up LG’s press release. Either way, the full release follows below and it contains more details about this budget-friendly device.
