Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses now available to pre-order for $1000
If you’ve been wanting an Android-powered device you can strap to the side of your head and are tired of waiting for the Google Glass to arrive, you might be interested to learn that the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses are now available for pre-order. The M100 Smart Glasses retail for $999.99 and are being offered up on Vuzix’s Website in White and Gray colors. Pre-orders are expected to ship to customers in 2 to 4 weeks.
We first heard about the Vuzix M100 Smart Glass during CES 2012 and we hadn’t heard much about it since. Vuzix previously made their fancy eye-wear available to gold-level developers earlier this year, but the company has today announced that they have finished all of the regulatory testing and production tooling and will now begin accepting pre-orders from the general public.
Much like the Google Glass, the Vuzix M100 is a hands-free device that connects wirelessy to your smartphone and is compatible with thousands of existing Android applications. On the hardware side of things, the M100 Smart Glasses feature a 1GHz OMAP4430 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB worth of on-board storage, a MicroSD card slot, a 600 mAh battery and a 5 mega-pixel camera that is capable of capturing 1080p video.
Users will be able to interact with M100 Smart Glasses using its 4 physical control buttons and the device also includes an earpiece and noise canceling microphone for phone calls. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and the M100 also includes an array of sensors such as an accelerometer, gyro, ambient light and proximity.
The M100 Smart Glasses are powered by the Android operating system and are able to do a number of different things.
